G1 to G2
Progression
Understand every requirement, timeline, and skill checkpoint between your G1 learner's permit and your G2 independent licence — and how to reach it as quickly as possible.
Advancing Your Licence
The jump from G1 to G2 is where you earn the right to drive independently. It requires a minimum holding period, accumulated driving experience, and a passing score on the G1 exit road test. Our training programme is specifically engineered to get you there on your first attempt.
The G2 Roadmap
Minimum Holding Period
You must hold your G1 for at least 12 months before taking the exit test. Completing an MTO-approved BDE programme reduces this to just 8 months — saving you up to 4 months of waiting.
Required Driving Experience
Use your G1 period to accumulate diverse experience: city driving, night driving, highway driving, and parking manoeuvres. Our structured lesson plans ensure you cover all categories before your test.
The G1 Exit Road Test
The exit test evaluates city driving, turns, lane changes, parking, and observation. It is conducted at a local DriveTest centre on standard roads — not a closed course — so route familiarity matters enormously.
G2 Privileges
A G2 licence allows fully independent driving at any time of day on any road, with a 0.00 BAC requirement if under 21 and a 0.05 limit otherwise. It is valid for 5 years before the final G exit test is required.
